Bratapfel vom SKOTTI Grill

It's getting cooler outside, the leaves are falling from the trees, and you're pulling your beloved sweater out of the back of the closet. The perfect setting for grilled baked apples , because they practically scream fall and winter. Cinnamon, sugar, raisins, and apples combined are absolutely heavenly. But we're not going to hold back and have been creative again: We're bringing you two variations of this popular dessert for the grill that are sure to blow you away. Unpack your SKOTTI and let's go!

Our tips for successful baked apples

For this grilled dessert, you can use virtually any apple variety, but there are subtle nuances. If the filling is sweet and spicy , sour apple varieties like Boskoop, Granny Smith, and the like are perfect. For a pop of color on the plate, red varieties like Braeburn and Gala are ideal.

Your goal: To get a soft, but not too soft, apple from the grill. It smells heavenly and tastes even better. This can be achieved using various techniques, whether indirect heat or directly on the grill – we'll show you our absolute favorite baked apple recipe below. Give it a try!

For the recipe you need the following ingredients (4 small baked apples):

  • 9 small apples
  • 1 small onion
  • 80 g diced ham
  • 100 g marzipan paste
  • 2 tbsp almond slivers
  • 2 tbsp raisins
  • Crème fraîche
  • Vanilla sauce (alternatively vanilla ice cream or rice pudding)

Here's how:

  1. Peel an apple, remove the core, and finely dice it. Finely dice the onion. Mix both with the ham cubes.
  2. Cut off the top of 4 apples, remove the core generously and fill with the ham, onion and apple mixture.
  3. Knead the marzipan with the almonds, raisins and a pinch of cinnamon (up to a teaspoon of cinnamon, depending on your preference).
  4. Use an apple corer to remove the core from the remaining 4 apples and fill the hole with the filling.
  5. Grill each apple in a small ovenproof dish or a piece of aluminum foil over medium heat until the flesh is soft and the skin cracks.
  6. Serve the savory filled apples with a dollop of crème fraîche, and the sweet ones with vanilla sauce, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or with rice pudding.

Enjoy! The perfect dish to kick off the autumn barbecue season and impress your loved ones with new recipe ideas.

What else goes well with a baked apple?

Warm vanilla sauce or vanilla ice cream pair perfectly with the tart flavor of baked apples. That's why we love vanilla ice cream as a topping for our baked apples. But there are no limits to your creativity: Cream, brittle, chocolate, mulled wine, or a shot of rum are also suitable toppings and add that special something to your plate.
